![]() Not that this story is tragic, but Marcelo’s struggles are the same struggles that I see my brother going through all the time. ![]() This book was amazing and broke my heart in so many ways. And so, Marcelo ends up working in the mailroom of his father’s law firm, where he has to deal with Wendell, the other partner’s obnoxious son, and Jasmine, who manages him. If Marcelo can survive the real world, he can stay in his school and take care of horses for the long term. However, his father comes to him with an ultimatum: take a summer job at his law firm or transfer to a public school. Human interaction doesn’t come naturally to him but he likes his school and he’s looking forward to his summer job taking care of horses. Marcelo has a pretty comfortable life at the start of the book. ![]() Since my brother is on the autism spectrum, I wanted to read more books which had characters that represent him. ![]() I’m not sure where I heard of this book but I remember why I wanted to read it: Marcelo has a cognitive disorder, which resembles Asperger’s syndrome. ![]()

There are no major breakthroughs, just a series of little (but important) developments.Īnother characteristic I loved about this book is that first there is a problem, then an idea is developed. Each idea is derived from a set of circumstances and from previously developed ideas to solve a specific problem. One of my favorite characteristics of Code is that nothing comes from a vacuum. Starting with the idea of communication and building upward, Code takes readers through a series of creations and revisions to model major steps in the development of computers and their components. ![]() Petzold states in the preface, Code is “a unique journey through the evolution of the digital technologies that define the modern age.” So, how computers work? Yes, but so much more! Code is not special because of its subject but rather because of how it weaves together the many and varied pieces that compose the topic.Ĭode takes its structure from the very object it seeks to explain: a computer. You can read more on my disclosures page. ![]() Vivi and Rhys have to ignore their off the charts chemistry to work together to save the town and find a way to break the break-up curse before it’s too late. Suddenly, Graves Glen is under attack from murderous wind-up toys, a pissed off ghost, and a talking cat with some interesting things to say. ![]() With one calamity after another striking Rhys, Vivi realizes her silly little Ex Hex may not have been so harmless after all. What should be a quick trip to recharge the town’s ley lines and make an appearance at the annual fall festival turns disastrously wrong. That is until Rhys Penhallow, descendent of the town’s ancestors, breaker of hearts, and annoyingly just as gorgeous as he always was, returns to Graves Glen, Georgia. Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but with only an “orchard hayride” scented candle on hand, she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two. Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend. ![]() 6/23/2023 0 Comments One time sharon creech![]() ![]() ![]() 10 Books for Children to Celebrate the Windrush GenerationĪ Julia Eccleshare Pick of the Month April 2022 | Longlisted for the UKLA Book Award 2023 ages 7-10Īward-winning Sharon Creech has an exceptional gift that enables her to tell her stories lightly and with humour. ![]() 30 Children's Books to Celebrate World Oceans Day.Children's Books that celebrate brilliant teachers for National Thank a Teacher Day!.The Week Junior Announces Shortlist for New Children's Book Awards.A Summer of Adventure - 50 Books to Inspire!.LGBTQI+ Children's Books celebrating Pride in London and Pride Month this June.Children's Books that feature Young Carers for Carers Week 2023.Create powerful poems to cheer your friends and family - Get Creative activities inspired by Sophie Cameron’s Away with Words.Brilliant Children's Books to Read this Summer.Back to the (Book of) the Future - the exciting re-issue of a much-loved classic.30 Children's Books to Celebrate World Music Day.LoveReading wins the Small Business x Sage pop-up shop competition!. ![]() ![]() ![]() Sometimes it's the simple things which can bring us such pleasure, and it's nice to be able to look at that through a child's eye. The novel centres on Mary Lennox, who is living in India with her wealthy. The pastoral story of self-healing became a classic of children’s literature and is considered to be among Burnett’s best work. The most enjoyable aspect for me was reading about the true pleasure of the discovery of a garden and the effects that discovery can have on a child's imagination and outlook on life. The Secret Garden, novel for children written by American author Frances Hodgson Burnett and published in book form in 1911 (having previously been serialized in The American Magazine). This book is definitely a product of its era (published in 1911), but that's part of its charm.
